Copper-alloy (brass) with a gold coating.
Age:
Around 1880.
Used For:
Ornaments on a French mahogany
dressing table - they helped support a mirror.
Place of Residence:
Probably a dressing room in a wealthy person's house, then at the Lady Lever Art Gallery from around 1911.
Damage:
Green marks on cupid's backside, plus black and red spots.
Other evidence:
The surface coating of the figure is yellowish. The coating is possibly
shellac, which is permeable (not water/air tight).
