Crime Sheet

Victim's Name: A 1:48 scale model of the ship, SS Malakand.

Age: Made by Harland & Wolff, Belfast in 1905.

Used For: The owners, the Brocklebank shipping line of Liverpool, used the model for display purposes - it was a promotional and status object.

Place of Residence: The Brocklebank offices - nothing more is known. Now in the museum's collection.

Damage: The paint is damaged on one side of the hull only. The red pigment has changed colour and the surface of the paint is cracked.

Date of damage: Unknown. The model was acquired by the museum in 1973, so the damage occurred between 1905 and then.

Other evidence: The original mahogany display case shows signs of damage as well - the varnish and wood have lightened.
