The old name for the Mersey Docks & Harbour Company, originally established in 1857 to run the docks. It is now a public company responsible for running the docks on both the Liverpool and Birkenhead sides of the river Mersey. It also runs the Medway Ports of Sheerness and Chatham in the South East of England and the Port of Heysham in Lancashire.
