Leaving from Liverpool

Setting Sail

This evening, at high tide, we set sail following a roll call and prayers from a vicar. I got a good look at our neighbours – many are not as young and strong as I thought they would be.

The Admiral Alcock was towed out into the channel by smaller boats (who took back to shore a stowaway!) and our journey had begun. The lights of Liverpool were beautiful and I felt some calm and hope.

Shortly after lights out I spoke with another man, who has also brought his family. I think we have the same worries. He suggested we share some of his tobacco – everyone else seemed to be asleep.
